Merry Christmas Henry by Aubrey Wynne

My Thoughts

Merry Christmas Henry by Aubrey Wynne, is a lovely short story that appeals to the artist in me.
The story builds quite nicely, detailing the friendship between Henry and Melinda while also highlighting his ongoing fascination with a painting that had been donated to the Museum.

I enjoyed reading the story from Henry’s perspective and found myself yearning for him to achieve his dreams. He was such a peaceful gentle soul; he really did have that impact on you as the reader. When he began to tamper with the painting of his obsession, I will confess to being quite concerned for him; for his friendship with Melinda, his well-being, his future freedom and his sanity.

To be honest I didn’t quite expect the ending and that was a nice surprise. It was a little reminiscent of Stephen King’s Rose Madder, not in the macabre sense, but in a paranormal one. I was relieved that Henry was okay in the end, but now feel that Melinda’s story needs to be told.

I will be reading more of Aubrey Wynne’s work.

Disclaimer

I obtained an ARC from the publisher (via Netgalley) with a view to providing an honest review. The thoughts expressed above, are entirely my own. I don’t really like the concept of rating novels as they are subjective and subject to change. A five star book today, may be re-evaluated when compared to future novels.
